WHAT IS THE NEW CARTOONIST...
"Well I’m old enough to remember picking up The Cartoonist broadsheet newspaper in the early nineties and I aways liked the idea of bringing it back in some form. I’ve always had a desire to get more cartoonists published but I knew TNC couldn’t be just a repeat version, that wouldn’t work in the 2020’s. I see many great gags online or cartoonists with amazing talent putting stuff out there on social media, cartoonists that can’t break through those barriers at established publications where there tends to be a ‘group’ of cartoonist regulars that will be considered before your effort might get a look. I wanted TNC to be different.
I wanted it to be more collaborative, a place where a hobbyist can proudly sit alongside a pro. I also knew there was a lot in the cartooning calendar across a year that could form a backdrop for articles and an interest in how cartoonists work which could work for interviews, and many books, awards, festivals and events to review. The New Cartoonist was born in September 2024, it's open to all, long may it continue"

CONTRIBUTORS BIOS
TNC is put together with the help of contributing writers, cartoonists and star gazers...

RUPERT BESLEY - CONTRIBUTOR
Rupert took the plunge into full-time cartooning in 1982 – mostly educational materials, book illustrations, bus timetables, local papers, tourist publications, postcards, country-style magazines and, er, a tea towel. He's now kept busy trying to sort through half a century’s clutter.

MARK WINTER - CONTRIBUTOR
Mark is an award-winning New Zealand cartoonist, designer and film maker and his pen name, Chicane, signifies a deceptive bend. The extent to which the man himself is deceptively bendy is a matter for some head-shaking debate. He is currently living and cartooning in London and is published and exhibited worldwide.
Mark is also on the Editorial board of The New Cartoonist.

GLENN MARSHALL - CONTRIBUTOR
‘Digital Brand Awareness User Experience Multi-Platform Content Engineer and Global Visionary’ Glenn Marshall is also the TNC's expert on all things tech.
His work has graced the pages of The New Yorker, Italian Vogue, New Scientist, The Guardian, Rolling Stone and of course a regular in The New Cartoonist.

DYANA SONGI - MY NEW BOSS EDITOR & CONTRIBUTOR
Dyana looks after the contributions from the young cartoonists, she has also written articles on 'women in cartooning' and regularly sub-edits TNC.
